Campania has an area of approx. 13.595 sq. km and 5.8 million inhabitants.
Campania borders on Latium in the northwest and Molise in the northeast. It lies east of Apulia abd southeast of Basilicata. The capital of this region is Naples and has 5 provinces, Avellino, Benevento, Caserta, Naples and Salerno. The area around Mt. Vesuvius is extremely fertile due to the volcanic earth and is ideal for vineyards. Even the early Romans came here to spend the summer. The various rulers of this area throughout history make it culturally a very interesting region.
