History and culture
The Islands of Cres and Lošinj also have a lot to offer culturally. The Osorer musical evenings are well-known outside of Croatia and take place every year in July and August. During this time there are concerts of well-known national and international artists nearly every day. In the old fortified tower in the harbour in Veli Lošinj you can find an exhibition which deals with the life of the dolphin. Furthermore, you can also admire the island’s ancient finds.
The land and its people
A diverse plant world has developed on the Islands of Cres and Lošinj. Karst stoney areas interchange with vast woods and forests and exotic parks that have been planted by man. The huge contrast between lush forest vegetation and stark stoney areas on which diverse aromatic herbs grow is noticeable and fascinating. The cheerful mentality and the exceedingly warm hospitality characterises the island’s inhabitants.
Food and drink
The unique connection between sea and forest has also influenced the cuisine of this region. You can expect to find excellent quality on your plate: scampi, bass and wild red snapper, sardines and other types of blue fish, all of which are so valued by nutritionists. In spring wild asparagus grows in the forests and in autumn and winter you can go mushrooming. Furthermore, there is a wide spectrum of sparkling wines and dessert wines to choose from, but also the local schnaps should definitely be tried.
