History and culture
Dalmatia has been part of the Republic of Croatia since the colapse of Yugoslaviain 1991/1992. The Croatian culture and also the culture of Dalmatia very early developed a strong bond with the Mediterranean culture. Roman rule and the i nfl u e n ce of t h e Byza n t i n e Empire also left their marks. These influences are reflected in numerous small churches and in the building style of the older buildings.

The Dalmatian cuisine is very light and healthy due to the meals of fish, grilled or lightly fried meat and the wide use of olive oil. There is often a big difference in the way the meals are prepared and cooked from town to town, which intensifies the appeal of this region. You can primarily find fish and mussel dishes in Dalmatia. Above all, a glass of the local wine is just the right thing to let a relaxing day on the beach unwind in a befitting way. You can enjoy the Dalmatian cuisine without having a bad conscience.
